Iris is known as the goddess of rainbows and the messenger for the Olympian gods of Grecian Mythology. A sea and sky goddess, her father Thaumas, a marine god, and mother Elektra, a cloud nymph. As the rainbow bridges the clouds and sea, Iris was thought to refill the clouds with rain water, her message brought from the gods, was life giving rain. She was often depicted with wings and a pitcher. Iris means rainbow and eiris means messenger in greek.
